I’m Stacey, I’ve had GSD’s for years. Lost my last dog I raised from a puppy in 12/23 to disseminated aspergillosis. My girl I have now, Duchess, is 3 years old and I’ve had her for 6 months. She was supposed to be a foster - she nipped at two small children and I tried to contact her Dad I was fostering for (he had some health issues) and he wanted nothing to do with her.
She’s a wonderful dog - and I’m keeping her but I have to confine her around children.
I also have partial custody of a shepherd heeler mix. She was a rescue - and doesn’t like men.

First off, I’m really sorry about your loss. Losing a dog you raised from a puppy is rough, especially in a way like that. That kind of grief stays with you.

Duchess sounds like she landed exactly where she needed to. Stepping up for a dog that didn’t get the start she deserved, and being honest about managing her safely around kids, says a lot about you as a handler. That kind of awareness is real responsibility, not failure.

Rescue dogs, especially shepherd mixes, often come with history we didn’t write, and meeting them where they are is the work. It looks like you’re doing that for both of them. Glad you’re here, and thank you for sharing their story.
