Greetings German Shepherd owners,

I am seeking a German Shepherd puppy. Almost 2 years since my Labradoodle of 15 years passed, time to search for my dream dog. Prefer picking my own dog, but open to other possibilities.

My lifestyle: Workout at the gym 5 to 7 times a week, go for jogs over the bridge from my suburban home. martial arts 3 times a week. Careers have involved conservation, maintenance, and secondary animal husbandry. Enjoy chill reading and writing, as well as constant productivity. I like to cosplay as Deadpool for kicks, and comic cons. So got some Ryan Reynolds personality in me. I am unemployed at the moment. I prefer the city life over rural, out in the country, and suburbans. Organize for civil rights.
Needs: Emotional support, companion.
Temperament: Active, energetic, goofy, chill, cuddly, and alert.

Breeder list: Vom Haus Audax, Thiesof, Tiltonhaus. Riohaus, Central Coast German Shepherds, Cain Creeks German Shepherds.

Any resources and tools will be more than appreciated.

I was with you right up until “the puppy chooses me” and “GSDs have the intelligence of a toddler”, that part made me sit up a little.

Letting a German Shepherd “decide” feels bold for a breed that routinely chooses chaos. If they had toddler intelligence, mine wouldn’t still be confused by her own reflection.

That said, active lifestyle, solid breeders, and realistic expectations matter way more than the metaphors. Stick around and you’ll get grounded advice from people who’ve actually lived with these dogs.

We are going to have different opinions, and a variety of perspectives. That is acceptable. Regarding to the intelligence, not in my realization, I see so many similarities between dogs and children. Neither do not know how to share, confused by own reflections, not understanding boundaries or personal space, I seen puppies going up to dog's face getting bit on the face just like children do too, shy with people other than their own families, kids choosing chaos.

Fair enough, I get the comparison, especially with impulse control and boundaries. I just try not to give my dog too much credit though. If she had toddler intelligence, she wouldn’t be losing arguments with the mirror daily 😄

Different perspectives are part of the fun here anyway.

German Shepherd forum is pretty brutal, just one mindset, one align perspective or else it's suddenly an insult.

By the way, I do not understand lifestyle or needs. I never really thought about my lifestyle or needs. What is a lifestyle what are needs?
