Chase is 6 months, and an AMAZING puppy, and one of the funniest things I've been dealing with is his 5 Second Fears of the day.

While he is very social and loves people, he's very sensitive to his surroundings. He notices a LOT from day to day and if it changes, he has to yell about it.

For instance, we walk out into the yard to go potty, and he sees a compost bin where it shouldn't be. TOTAL BARKING MELTDOWN for literally five seconds, then I ask him to come see it with me, and he sniffs it and is like, "oh yeah that's nothing" and moves on with life. Next time he sees it he's completely a-okay with it!

Other 5 Second Fears were:
Leaves that changed color from green to red, leaves on the ground at the start of Autumn, a fence post that was recently painted to a different color, a flower pot waiting to be put in the ground, a hanging plant, and the first time he witnessed my little poodle mix after being shaved down.

Sounds like you guys are handling his 5 second fears well. Is he just going through a phase right now?

Gotta love puppies!

I find every month we go through something new. This month has been the 5 Second Fears, but the previous month's weird puppy behavior of "I never want to leave the property ever" has 100% stopped out of the blue.

He's from a farming line, so I think he definitely is just wired to notice when things are off even a smidge. He does a great job of alerting to actual dangers like raccoons and foxes, though!

Haha that’s classic shepherd behavior, nothing escapes their notice. I love that he gets over it so quickly though, that curiosity wins out every time. Sounds like Chase keeps life entertaining!

I have never laughed as hard as I have with this dog in my life. I have had SO MANY PETS and this one GSD is such a fun experience.

5 Second Fears LOL. Sounds like Chase just needs a daily neighborhood inspection log. “Compost bin moved 3 inches. Suspicious.”

Okay, “5 Second Fears” might be the best phrase I’ve ever heard. The compost bin story had me cracking up.
It’s so funny how quickly they go from total panic to “oh never mind.” Does he still get them pretty often or is he starting to chill out a bit as he grows?

He is coming out of it now and entering a "you're cool but I'll sit over here and you can perceive me but don't pet me" phase. Every day is a new adventure in his personality but he is such a nice temperament.

That sounds like such a good stage for him. I love that he’s figuring out his boundaries but still staying gentle and curious, it really does sound like he has such a lovely temperament.
