Hello from the East Coast of the US.

Welcome to the forum, MyDogBitz! Great to have you here. An 8 month old shepherd is right in that teenage stage with lots of energy, lots of personality, and plenty of laughs. Bomber is a great name.

I don’t think your photo came through on the post though. If you get a chance, try uploading it again, I'd love to see him. Shepherd pics are a must.

Looking forward to hearing more about him and your journey together.

Hey Bitz and Bomber, welcome both of you! Let me know if you have any questions or need any help getting setup, my DMs are open. Also, suggestions are more than welcome.

I look forward to seeing the post updated with a pic of your boy

I've attached an image three times and every time the image failed to appear after submitting the post. 🤷 EDIT: Dropping the image into the post worked. Attaching the image does not.

Handsome boy!

Okay noted, will look into that today and see what the problem could be.

Oh my gosh, Bomber is beautiful! Those ears are everything 😍 I can’t believe he was only 5 or 6 months in that picture, he already looks so grown up. Can’t wait to hear more about him. Does he have any funny quirks yet?

Where do I start? LOL. The one thing that stands out is his pack drive. He absolutely loses his mind anytime my wife or kid enter whatever room he happens to be in. It doesn't matter if he's just seen them 35 seconds ago, you would think it's the first time he's seeing them in years. Frankly, it's a behavior I've been struggling to alter. It's a bit much. Otherwise he's the single nicest dog I've ever had. Even and stable, super high drive but totally trustworthy with family, kids and other dogs. The breeder did a tremendous job.

That actually sounds really sweet, even if it’s a bit over the top sometimes. I love that he’s so excited just to see his people, even if they only left the room for a minute. Do you think that pack drive is more of a shepherd thing, or just his personality?

Both. My last GSD was definitely a "one person" type of dog. This is my fourth GSD and all of them except the one had strong pack drive. This guy's is over the top though. He was launching himself into the air due to arousal and not caring how he landed. I had to punish that behavior away. He still gets too excited for my liking. But what the hell, he absolutely LOVES his family.

The funny thing is, because of the work I've done with him as a puppy there's no separation anxiety whatsoever and he doesn't pay much attention to strangers out in public.

It's just with family members.

He sounds like such a great dog. The way you described him absolutely loving his family is really sweet, and I feel like that says a lot about the work you’ve put in as his trainer too. It must be such a good feeling to see that bond pay off like that.

Well, there are a lot of things I'm proud of but I think this particular behavior is 50% environment and 50% genetic. I'm sure the way we've included him in the family has helped but I've never seen anything like this, it is WILD. LOL!

Bomber?! That’s a fitting name… Can’t believe he was only 5–6 months in that pic, he’s got the "I already run this house" stare down pat.
