HI,

My name is Martin I am from the UK, a little about me I have owned 3 GSD working line. I am currently a police dog instructor having been a police dog handler for 12 years. I train General purpose police dogs to be trained to FSD (firearms support dogs) level, basically work around police teams with guns. I will also be moving into the world of search dogs only in the next year thats working on explosives, cash, firearms, drugs and digital detection work.

I met Andre in a digital world called crypto and one of the only good experiences of my time losing money to digital art (NFT'S). One of the most genuine people I met out here.

He seems to think my knowledge would be very beneficial in here. But I read a few posts and noticed that a lot of you in here have great knowledge so I hope I can also learn from you too.

In the next few weeks I will be away training some dogs to do firearms work so will try and get some interesting photos for the group. Bare with me never used this platform before I am more a discord guy.

All the best

Hey Caspa! Big welcome to the GSDHQ! We’re really glad to have you here. It’s awesome to have your years of experience with police dogs and training on the forum. Excited to hear more about your work, especially as you move into search and digital detection work (maybe you’ll even find us a lost ledger full of Bitcoin one day, haha).

Your background brings a lot of value, and I know the community will be looking forward to your stories, insights, and photos from training. Best of luck with the work you’ve got coming up, and if you ever need help navigating the forum, don’t hesitate to reach out!

Hi great to meet you

Wow, welcome Caspa! That’s such an incredible background, 12 years as a handler and now moving into detection work is amazing. I can only imagine the level of training and dedication that goes into it. It’ll be awesome to learn from your experience here, and I’m definitely looking forward to those training photos you mentioned. Out of all the detection areas you’ll be moving into, is there one you’re most excited about?

I also saw @SKelt83 post about starting Thunder in Search & Rescue, it’s really cool seeing how different working dogs are trained for such important jobs. Between SAR and the kind of detection work you do, it feels like we’ll get such a wide perspective here!

I must admit I always been very interested in the drug detection work however my heart is with the fsd work thats my biggest interest.

The foundations for search detection work follows across all the different elements its very similar until the dogs are imprinted on a substance then the different techniques start to need to be taught.

That makes a lot of sense, I hadn’t realized how much overlap there is before the dogs get imprinted. Really fascinating! Since your heart is with the FSD work, what is it about that type of training that you enjoy most? I don't know anything about FSD
