Don't think of drive so much in the terms of energy, although that's certainly part of it. Think of it as persistence. I really believe that's a better description. That makes a lot of sense, honestly. I’ve heard similar things about the health differences between lines, and the drive question is something I think about a lot as someone still learning.
Bomber sounds amazing, but yeah, I can totally see how that level of energy would be overwhelming for most first timers. It’s helpful hearing this kind of perspective though… it really shows how important it is to choose a dog that matches your lifestyle and experience.
If you're familiar with the bully breeds, like the pitbulls, staffi's, bull dogs, etc, a lot of them are couch potatoes. Lazy bums who love to sleep and lay around. YouTube is loaded with videos of dogs like this.
What you don't see, is when these dogs turn on its extremely difficult to turn them off. A fighting pitbull can share a bed with a toddler but will fight another dog to the death and love it more than anything else even if he's on the losing side.
I grew up in a neighborhood where dog fighting out in public happened often. I can remember seeing pitbulls shredded to pieces having full on erections through the entire thing - this is what drive is IMHO.
