Lately I noticed crusty buggers at my 8 yo boy's nose. It hard to get them off and it must hurt him so I leave them, unless I can wipe them off with a moist cloth. This must bother him, I can imagine, they accumulate at the rear end of that gap they have on the side of their nose. Has anyone experienced something like this?IMG_3695.jpg

That looks more like dried discharge than anything unusual at first glance. Older shepherds can get thicker mucus that dries along that side crease of the nose, especially if the air is dry or they’ve had mild allergies. If it wipes away with a warm damp cloth and the skin underneath looks normal (not red, cracked, or bleeding), it’s usually nothing serious.

If it’s just occasional crust that softens with moisture, I wouldn’t panic. You can gently loosen it with a warm cloth rather than pulling it dry. If it starts increasing or looks inflamed underneath, that’s when I’d check with a vet just to rule out infection or something lodged.
