Favorite Every Day Collar?

For everyday use, I stick with a 1.5-inch Biothane working collar with a solid brass buckle and D-ring. It’s low-maintenance, doesn’t absorb smell or water, and cleans up in seconds after training or a muddy hike.

I like gear that can handle rain, mud, and rough play without needing babying. Biothane’s got that perfect mix of leather feel with working-dog toughness.

For training, I’ll sometimes swap to a Herm Sprenger prong or slip tab collar depending on what we’re working on, but day-to-day, simple, strong Biothane all the way.

I have a 1.5" flat collar for my girl. It distributes the pressure better than a thinner collar when she pulls. If she's going through a pully phase I end up switching to a front-clip harness for a while.

I personally don't use prongs because I know my communication would be sloppy and that would be unfair to her. The prong can definitely cause discomfort so I don't feel great about trying it knowing my timing sucks.

I like high quality 2" wide flat buckle leather collars. Stainless steel or brass hardware. Although, with my current dog I like switching collars up and I've grown fond of the fursaver. My wife isnt a fan so I've gone back to his typical flat buckle collar. Currently he's wearing a 2" wide nylon collar from Canine Athletes. I have a few of their collars and I really like them. High quality.

I use a Leerburg long link fur saver, it only looks pretty, and has her name tag on it incase she gets out. I wouldn’t use it for any type of work at all. I am sure you could, I just have more effective collars for training.

At home i dont use any collar but when I go out i like to use a thick (but not heavy) one of a national brand called Bandog to protect her neck in case of a sudden attack of another dog (specially pitbulls)

I have a 1.5 inch kong brand flat collar that has a handle on it that works well. I like having the handle on the collar incase he gets unruly and you need the extra control.

Kind of an old thread, but after having 6 german shepherds here is what we use:

Herm Sprenger prong collar - key to fit it correctly and use it correctly, only for training and public interactions

Ray Allen K9 nylon agitation collar with handle - these come with legit Cobra buckles and will not break. I still have Ray Allen leather collars, leashes and a harness from the 1970's when my dad was a police K9.

1 wide biothane collar with Herm Sprenger buckle, perfect for lake days and all the muggy weather we get in Michigan

I switch between the Ultra Plus Herm Sprenger Prong collar and a tactical collar with a heavy duty buckle and a handle. E-collar is almost always on during the day but hardly ever actually used on him. Just keeps him honest
