Hi everybody. I've lived in northern MN for most of my life, and have had six GSDs. Each has had a special talent or trait. One, I titled in AKC obedience, but she was shown to have hip dysplasia when she was only two years old, and I basically retired her from showing because of that, and let her do whatever *she* wanted to do; which was mostly to protect me. She was my "heart dog," my ideal. She died over 20 years ago and I still miss her, and wish she could be with me right now. Others have been special for being trackers, watchers/guarders, goof balls, super-calm and chill with kids and small animals, and so on.

I look forward to reading and contributing here.

Hi North, welcome to GSDHQ! Your girl truly sounded like an amazing dog. Those heart dogs stay with us forever.

It’s clear you’ve had some incredible companions over the years. Looking forward to hearing more about your journey with your pups and seeing you around!

Welcome to the pack and what an introduction. Six GSDs and a lifetime in northern Minnesota… that’s the kind of experience you feel in someone’s words. Every Shepherd leaving their mark in a different way is exactly what makes this breed so addictive, they’re never the same dog twice, and each one teaches you something new about yourself.

Your heart dog story hit hard. Anyone who has loved a Shepherd long enough knows that one dog who stays with you forever. Twenty years or two months, it doesn’t matter, some bonds don’t fade. I’m glad you’re here. Experience like yours brings a lot of value to the community, and I know plenty of newer owners will benefit from what you’ve learned over all those dogs and all those miles. Looking forward to hearing more about your crew, past and present.
