We got him just about a year ago and couldn't be happier. Grew up with mostly labs and always wanting a bigger dog with more drive. Well now I've realized that owning a GSD is a lifestyle haha. His test came back as half GSD, Lab, Husky, "super mutt." Recently moved to a house from an apartment complex and he's a different dog! Just learning as much as I can about the breed to give him the best life possible.

Welcome to the group guys! You've definitely come to the right place if you are looking to learn more.

How's Jet doing with the adjustment of moving? He looks like a very good boy.

He couldn't be happier. Now he has a giant yard to sniff out sticks and run to his hearts content. He's far calmer now too as he's definitely one to try and "protect" his area/people. There's a reactive dog across the street that barks at him and he just doesn't care because w/e it's not in "his" space. So it was always a little bit of management in the apartment complex with tons of other dogs and "strange" people. The most interesting thing imo is he feels far less of a need to be in the same room at the house as me. He's still my shadow but it won't be unusual for him to be chilling in the next room or something where that just didn't happen in the apartment. I still plan on working with a trainer this summer to work on his neutrality some. He's an amazing dog though and will spit out treats if he thinks he can get a better one and will negotiate to either go outside or give him a pupscicle by brining me my shoes or the leash and if I refuse will bring me the pupscicle treat holder. BTW best treat ever imo. I just freeze PB with some of his treats and use the molds they sell.

Welcome in! 👋

You are spot on owning a Shepherd, it is d definitely lifestyle, not just pet ownership! I'm glad you've been enjoy it!

That move from an apartment to a house must have felt like winning the lottery for him, having that space makes such a difference! Congratulations!

I actually have a very similar mix myself (half GSD, Malinois, Husky, and Supermutt), just minus the Lab! So I relate to that high-energy you are dealing with!
The Husky independence mixed with GSD drive is also a fun combo.

He is a handsome boy! Looking forward to seeing more of him around here! Have a happy new years!

Welcome! “Owning a GSD is a lifestyle” is the most accurate sentence here.

House upgrade unlocking a whole new dog is very real too. Sounds like Jet’s living his best life now. Glad you’re here and learning as you go, that’s pretty much the whole deal.

Give Jet a scratch for me
