For a number of reasons, we want to get The Bee used to being crated. I finally found a good deal on a huge crate (I'm really cheap) and it's been sitting in our living room for a few days so she can get used to the scent. Today I started to put it together and The Bee was inside it as soon as the top half was in place. She stayed inside it for quite a while. Later I got a bed in it and she went right back inside. Stayed for at least 45 minutes. This is a girl who's restless after sitting for 15 minutes.
Eventually I put the door across the opening, and that didn't bother her at all.
I think, in her unknown to us past, a crate was her safe place -- her comfortable place. At one point I said "Let's go to your room," and she went right to and in the crate. A phrase from her past? I'm wondering, given all this, that she really might have been a mama at a puppy mill. Sadly, Wisconsin has a lot of then.

In the next few days we'll be acclimating Lady Bee to the crate, closing the door, etc. I should add that she -- on her own -- took a couple of toys into the crate.

That’s such a big win for Lady Bee, especially for a rescue whose past is a bit of a mystery. The fact that she chose to go in on her own and brought toys in says a lot about how comfortable she already feels in your home. You handled the introduction perfectly, no pressure, just letting her explore it at her own pace.
