Thanks very much, Andre!Hey HasToBeGSD, welcome to the community! Zeke looks like a confident and happy boy!
What do you guys like getting up to?
Haha I definitely worded my question weirdly. I meant what kinds of activities do you and Zeke enjoy together? But I’m glad he’s such a good sleeper and doesn’t wake you up.Thanks very much, Andre!
Well, I don't get much sleep (unfortunately), so a LOUD smartphone alarm clock and as a fall back, music. Zeke's so good, he only wakes me up on the rare occasion he drank ALOT (think multiple water bowls) of water before going to bed.
Thanks for the welcome and thanks for the question. I get asked this a lot. Zero! Even after being neutered at almost exactly 3 yrs old, there has been no drop off. With the Showlines I had, his energy level did subside, but not with Zeke. Keeps me on my toes! He's a great dog and I'm lucky to have himWelcome to the HQ, Zeke and HastobeGSD! What an intense face Zeke has! Being a fully matured WL, how do you find his energy has leveled out as an adult vs a young adult? Is he easier to manage now?
No, your question was fine. I'm an idiot! I work remotely, so he's with me virtually all the time. We go on long walks and go through our obedience drills on a lot of them, fetch, etc. Nothing unique. Inside, it's constant play, whether it's hide and seek, "wrastling", chasing, etc. Oh, and constant squeaky toys to the pt where I have to use close captioned to understand what's going on, on the TV. BTW, he was boarded and trained with an ex-military who's trained hundreds of GSDs.Haha I definitely worded my question weirdly. I meant what kinds of activities do you and Zeke enjoy together? Thanks lil wizard! Glad to be here. I'm biased, of course, but I love that WL Czech look too. I took the liberty to look at your introduction and I saw that Rune is a 10 month old Working Lines. What kind? Czech, DDR, West German? You must be still be in the "Velociraptor" stage. I remember those bloody days!Welcome to the HQ, HastobeGSD! Zeke looks awesome, love that WL Czech look
Rune and I are new here too, excited to see you around the forum!
No not at all, my comment was just weirdly phrased. No, your question was fine. I'm an idiot! I work remotely, so he's with me virtually all the time. Appreciate it!! Rune’s WGWL and you’re absolutely right, we’re still in the small but deadly velociraptor phase. Some days he’s a sweet apprentice, other days he’s casting chaos spells nonstop. It’s a journey! Thanks lil wizard! Glad to be here. I'm biased, of course, but I love that WL Czech look too. I used that term to mean play wrestling, although I can't let it go on too long because his grip is insanely "firm". I do get a kick out of it, but after awhile exasperation does set in! For example, I work in a virtual environment, submitting information to a network, and at any moment in time including when I'm sending information, he'll hit my elbow with his snout. He'll constantly bring me toys, or stuff he knows he's not supposed to take (like my notes!) and race to my bedroom where we "wrestle" for it and play. This happens throughout the day, although I try to make it quick, so as not to spend too much time away from the computer. In between those times, he'll either be by my side napping or across the front door (about 15 feet from my work chair). No not at all, my comment was just weirdly phrased.
haha, he sounds like a fun handful! Have you been doing any techniques to try and work his "off switch" while in the house or do you love his constant drive?
What's "wrastling", some ultra cool version of wrestling?
Yep, and a journey well worth it and one I know you love! They're special dogs.Appreciate it!! Rune’s WGWL and you’re absolutely right, we’re still in the small but deadly velociraptor phase. Some days he’s a sweet apprentice, other days he’s casting chaos spells nonstop. It’s a journey!
Thanks Malakai (BTW, VERY cool name)!Welcome to GSDHQ, @HastobeGSD glad to have you here! Zeke is an absolute beauty. That WL Czech look is unmistakable… all business in the eyes, all heart with his person. And having experience with both lines (WL Czech and a WGSL bicolor) means you’ve got a really solid perspective to bring to the table, we love that around here.
Haha, appreciate that. Breaker was the same way… looks like he’s calculating geometry when he stares at you, but melts into a puddle the second you scratch his chest. Thanks Malakai (BTW, VERY cool name)!
As I mentioned earlier in this thread, he's a great dog, and I'm lucky to have him. I love that description of him "all business in the eyes, all heart with his person". I'm going to borrow the use of that wording, but I promise to attribute it to you...Makes me think you are very familiar with Czechs...or he's been sneaking out and going to your place when I've gone out![]()
Thanks, I just might do that. It sounds like Breaker is no longer around. I'm really sorry about that. It's the only bad thing about having em'. They just don't live long enough. Even if they lived to 30, it still wouldn't be long enough. Sorry.Haha, appreciate that. Breaker was the same way… looks like he’s calculating geometry when he stares at you, but melts into a puddle the second you scratch his chest.
Seriously, you’ve clearly got a solid dog and the right mindset. When someone understands that blend of intensity and loyalty, it makes living with these Czech working lines a whole different experience.
Anytime you want to trade stories about these Czech psycho's, I’m here.
Nice! They are good at sharing little lessons with us. Sometimes you need to just get up and wrastle a little bitI used that term to mean play wrestling, although I can't let it go on too long because his grip is insanely "firm". Thanks! Nice to be here. Yeah, Zeke has "that look", but, he's the one whose causing the "crimes" in my house, like the case of the missing remote control, or who stole my flip flops, etc!Welcome! Zeke looks awesome. Those Czech lines always look like they’re solving crimes in their spare time.
