I chose a German Shepherd because I wanted a dog that actually partners with you. Something intelligent, driven, and emotionally tuned in not just a pet that exists in the background. They’re versatile, honest dogs. You put work in, they give it back tenfold. Hiking, training, problem solving, just living life side by side, a Shepherd wants to be part of all of it. That kind of connection is hard to beat.

I chose a forest goblin.. I mean German Shepherd because it's been the breed I've loved since childhood. I wanted a breed that I'd have a great connection with but also something that would give me a challenge. Pip may not be fully GSD but she's been the best friend I needed. When I was looking at dogs I tried to avoid GSDs because I had no space but something just called me to look at these puppies. Obviously I fell in love with Pip as soon as I met her. I will forever own German Shepherd's

My current Shepherd, Maliketh, is my first, and he is truly what cemented my feelings about this breed.

To paint the picture however, growing up my family avoided big dogs and fed me plenty of "horror stories" about them. Even early in my career working in boarding kennels, GSDs honestly intimidated me. I admired them, but I vowed not to get one until I was 100% sure I could handle their needs.

A turning point was working in Veterinary Medicine. Seeing various working dogs in high stress situations showed me their resilience, versatility, and the unique bond they had with their owners in a way I hadn’t seen before. Between that real world experience and doing my own research, I was incredibly impressed by what they could do.

I chose this breed because I realized I didn't just want a pet anymore. I wanted that level of intelligence, drive, and partnership. not just someone taking care of an animal, but two companions raising each other up equally.

But getting Maliketh wasn't just a purchase, it was fate. I saw a "Found Dog" post for a wandering Shepherd they believed was dumped. I felt an instant connection, and after abit of a wild goose chase I took him in. Now I couldn't imagine life without him, we've had many ups and a few downs, but we have always been there to support each other 🐾
