This thread will be used to document my journey, leading up to and after getting my pup.

October 8th, 2025 - The Beginning

I've found one of the best ways to track progress has been through some sort of notes or journals to track information. Secondly, I very much enjoy watching behind the scenes videos and maybe you do too. There's something about being able to look at your past self and evaluate how far you have come. That's what this thread is for. I'll share my brutally honest updates on how it's going by exposing my mistakes and wins through videos, photos, stories, and questions. I am here to learn from constructive criticism and advice.

This whole "getting a dog thing" has been a really long journey for me. I don't have a dog right now, and I won't for about 9 months. As of 2 months ago, I met the breeder that I will be going with and the dam of the litter. I got to interact with her and her daughter (a half sibling of my future pup), and I was pleased. I will hear around December/January if the breeding takes, then not long after be able to confirm a deposit. It's a while to wait and I am sure there are plenty of great puppies around the corner but the IGP club I went to highly recommended this pairing and breeder and I felt very comfortable with them.

Here's a picture of the dam

Super cool. I like the idea of documenting everything. It's going to be a long winter waiting for your pup to get home!

Thank you! The more I talk to you guys and continue building knowledge, the more exciting and real it is. It also makes the countdown feel much longer.

Until then, I will keep learning and having fun with you and everyone here.

This is such an exciting start, Andre! I love that you’re documenting everything from the very beginning. It’s going to be amazing to look back on later and see how far you and your pup come. The dam looks beautiful, and you can tell she’s got that focused working-line energy. December/January can’t come soon enough!

Love that you’re documenting the whole process, it’s going to be a great reference not just for you, but for others down the road too.

That waiting period before bringing a pup home is one of the best times to study, plan, and mentally prepare. Getting to know the dam and breeder like that says a lot about how seriously you’re taking it. She looks fantastic, strong build and clear eyes.

Looking forward to following along on this journey. You’re setting a solid foundation already.

Thanks Kaia. Might we see one of these with your future pup? I think it would be cool

I agree 100%. I think it will be cool to see the progress and hopefully give other future handlers an honest idea of what to expect when you get a higher drive pup. I am trying my best, definitely learning as I go. Will be picking your mind and others for advice!
