Too late to train off leash?

My Navee turned 3 in September but we haven't done any off-leash training, although she is very good on-leash. Is it too late to successfully get her trained going off-leash? We live in Suburbia and have lots of greenbelts and open spaces in addition to the miles of sidewalks and pavement, but worry about her darting off into traffic or chasing bunnies. All of her training from me came from Youtube videos but was wondering if I should seek professional training instead.

If she's good on-leash you already have the foundation down.

How far do you want to go with your off leash training?

Off leash in a field or at a park so she can run, play, and explore? Or, off leash anywhere, even walking through a busy town sidewalk past people and distractions?

Ideally, I would like to hike mountain, forest, and desert trails with her without having to have her leashed. She does all this already on-leash, but I don't have any desire to do any urban off-leash exploring. I would like her to be able to wander a couple dozen or so feet ahead of me on trails and circle back when called. She is good with other dogs at dog parks, but she goes a bit bonkers when we come across bunnies in the neighborhood so I guess I'm more worried about running into wildlife, as opposed to other humans or dogs.

You need a recall. Teaching a recall PROPERLY will get you exactly what you want. Including getting your dog off of the small animals and distractions.

I could walk you through it but honestly I would recommend the online recall course on Shield K9s website. The head trainer owner/operator is Haz Othman.

He's a Canadian based trainer. He recently won the Canadian National German Shepherd Championship, it's an IGP competition. He's placed top ten in the world a few years back in the Worlds competition.

I own the entire online catalog and his training methodology is what I've used to train my dogs.

If you follow the course, you will have a dog that can be off leash and under control. Guaranteed.

If you don't want to spend the money, I can walk you through it, but it would probably take longer without the videos.

Perusing the website you recommended, are you talking about the $79 Recall Masters Course or the $399 Elite Off Leash Package? Looks like the Elite package covers a lot of basic obedience which Navee is proficient at, but I’ve never really worked on her recall.

If you want full off-leash obedience, the elite off leash course is what you want. But, what you're looking for is covered in the recall course. Get the recall course and if you have questions I can help you along the way.

Again, appreciate the tip! I think it's reasonably priced for that course so I think I will give it a shot and will keep you updated on how things are going.
