What wins with training did you all have this month?

Gloat! Brag! Own your wins, I want to hear it all! I know we're all constantly working on things with our dogs, so tell me what you seen progress on or overcame! No brag is too big or too small!

For instance, Chase got this nasty habit of barking big and loud in excitement (would also spin) when he was getting his meals served to him. I FINALLY after a month and a half of consistently correcting the behavior, I have it that he is quiet as a church mouse and sitting in place while I prepare his food and sit it in front of him.

Damn I'm about to disappoint you.

So I've been training my puppies more than Murphy since she's trained at such a high level.

One thing that I have been working on is having the puppies look to Murphy more for the behaviors I want.

I finally realized the exact moments in which the puppies are observing her, and then looking to me. This is honestly the most interesting study in behavior I have witnessed in dogs this far.

Because my new puppies are mutts as far away from my purebred GSD (LMFAOOOOOOOOO) I can't post updates of those idiots lol.

I guess... I am working on new touch commands for Murphy. The blind/deaf dog post got me thinking about what other kinds of touch commands I could make and I am having fun trying to think of what touch to pair to what command.

But, that's not a win. I have nothing this week

You have no idea. I never thought my dog would be trained to this level. I wanted a warm blanket I could hug and would lick my face. Instead I got a tactical fur missile that hates cuddling and needs puzzles that would confound a middle schooler to thrive.

A quiet house with three dogs? That’s not a brag, that’s a flex.

People underestimate how much mileage you get out of solid impulse control and a firm “no bark" paired with clear expectations. Most problem behaviors in the house come from arousal creeping up with no boundaries to check it, you cut that off at the foundation.

Honestly, I’m with you: if the dogs can settle, stay quiet, and respect the house rules, the rest is just bonus skills. A calm household is the best training environment you can give them.

Still… I’d bet you’ve built more into them than you’re giving yourself credit for. Quiet dogs don’t happen by accident.

I would LOVE to hear your take on all that because I very clumsily got through it a couple of years ago with like...a relevant episode of It's Me or the Dog and I think a tidier take would be so good for EVERYONE. Leaving cues, be it excitement or anxiety, are tough.

My girl finally stopped doing her signature “full body tackle of love” whenever I walk in the door. For months it was like coming home to a linebacker who missed her NFL draft. Now? She actually sits before greeting me. SITS.

Is it a perfect sit? No. Is the tail going so fast she might achieve liftoff? Absolutely. But she’s holding it together and not knocking out my knees like a furry wrecking ball anymore, so I’m calling it a massive win.

Proud dad moment unlocked.

If you’ve ever had your dog detonate because they recognized a routine like boots on, leash picked up, keys jingling, treat bag moved, you’re not alone.

Breaker used to absolutely lose his mind when I put on my boots. Not excited. Not happy. He was OBSESSED. Screaming. Spinning. Shaking. Losing the plot. This is extremely common in working line GSDs, Malinois, high drive mixes… basically any dog who has opinions and enthusiasm.
