Hi

Hi Caryll, welcome to the GSDHQ!

We are happy to have you. Are you currently waiting on a litter or just a breed enthusiast?

Just an enthusiast!

I got my first GSD, Max, in 1979 after seeing dogs such as Royvons Red Rum and Amulrees Heiko at shows (I had previously had Border Collies and Belgian Tervuerens).

Max wasn't a show dog (although he was well bred) but was trained to test c level in obedience. I co-ran an obedience club at the time so my dogs tended to serve as 'examples'! Like the time I did a left turn with my border collie but she didn't turn & I went head first over the top of her! Very good example, I'm sure you'll agree!

Max was joined by Eva two years later and then by a rescue ex-pub dog, Ouzo (a GSD x Rough Collie) who was a pain in the a*se.

Awesome. I've been to a regional GSD show and there were definitely some stunning dogs so I can see how it piqued your interest in the breed along with your passion for training. I feel like GSD's are one of the best options for training lovers.

Your story of the border collie gave me a chuckle haha. It's always the worst when things don't work when you are doing it in front of others.

The border collie one was actually even worse than it sounds - I was about 23 or 24 years old and a guy I really liked was in the hall watching... I was SO embarrassed!

If you don't trip over your dog at least once you're not teaching the heel right! LOL! I've definitely face planted a time or two myself. Haha. Welcome aboard! You've been doing this a long time, nice to have someone around we can bounce problems & ideas off of. 🫡

Welcome, Caryll! Even if you don’t have a shepherd right now, it’s awesome that you’ve had them in the past. Do you have a favorite memory with your GSD Max?

Welcome Caryll! Glad you’re here. But I gotta ask… any chance a new pup is sneaking into your life soon? Because honestly, a house without a shepherd feels way too quiet. Who else is gonna steal your socks and make the neighbors question your life choices?

Welcome, Caryll! Once a shepherd owner, always part of the shepherd family.

Do you have a favorite memory from one of your past dogs? Always love hearing those stories. They never really leave us.
